Mike: He and Brad Dysinger and Martin Wilbur - that was a trio that traveled the country as juniors and they just cleaned up. These guys can shoot. They have shot a tremendous amount of targets.
iTrapshooter.com: You’re in your 38th season of shooting. How did you get started back in ’75?
Mike: Someone invited me to a turkey shoot and I’d never shot trap before. I went to this turkey shoot and started winning chickens and turkeys, and someone noticed me and said, “Hey you’re pretty good at this. Have you ever thought of shooting the next level – club shooting?” So I went to a club and I got to ATA shooting. Basically, someone took me to a turkey shoot.
iTrapshooter.com: Congratulations on all of your achievements and your newest role as a teacher.
Mike: We’ll see where it brings me. I love people, that’s my deal. I just enjoy good people, talking about a sport that I like to do and my family likes to do. I was able this year to have my son Jake at the Grand American. We shot every singles event together. We just jumped around and picked squads. We shot with people that we didn’t even know but after the hundred, we knew them. The experience was a great thrill for me and I hope it was for him.
